I work in Pasir Ris, albeit detached from the arts district, but very close to home.
The studio area is in Vidacity, a startup incubator housed in the L2 container unit of the former Loyang Primary School. Vidacity is in the middle of a heartland area, surrounded by HDB estates and quite close to nature. Most people pass by to enter the sports areas, making it a rather transitory space, and my unit is rather isolated.
The Room served mainly as a transitional and storage space between the outside and the 2nd room, where I work privately.
I think about how I, as a young artist, can make public my practice and interests, and what constitutes a show formally, or does a show or anything public need to be formal at all?
Woolf said, “A woman must have money and a room of her own (if she is to write fiction).”
So, in that line of thought, interiority and giving oneself space for ideas and work to come alive are the root ideas of Room.
Everyone has space problems. Space to work, space to sell, space to show. So I'd like to house you in my Room and and offer a room of your own to do what you need to.

Room currently operates as a small store/gallery where I display my works, WIPs and objects of affection for sale. There are 3 IKEA shelves and probably some second-hand furniture that I will install.
Depending on what you want to do: make a show, perform, film, or shoot, you could transform the space by rearranging existing furniture and fixtures, hanging works, or bringing in your objects. Basically, make the room yours.
I only ask that your output be made public, i.e., have a show, talk, or programme, and be documented online.
The months currently available are: May, June, July, August, September.
Output examples:
2 weeks show + public programming
book display + story telling session
prints display
live music session
performance
I pay rent, of course, so if you are able to, please contribute a flat fee of $100/ week to cover the utilities for your usage :) Of course, depending on your needs and availability, this is flexible and open for discussion.
What you will have:
3x3m thereabout of space
drill, hammer, nails
wall putty
airconditioning/ fan
I want to ensure my space is cared for and that happenings are produced responsibly.
We can get to know each other and remain flexible about the fees, usage terms, and trade skills (thank you for understanding; I have a rice bowl to earn too).
Do we already know each other? DM me..

Since Room is based on my own interiors, I’d like to have a conversation with your practice alongside mine.
Some areas of interest you might propose ideas around are:
Nature / Ecology / Environment
Self and World -- Interiority and Exteriority
Mediation/ Mindfulness
Writing as (world-making, reflection, birth, etc.) / Poetry / Text
Craft and Materials Object relationships (clay, sculpture, jewellery, etc)
Or, questions like:
How can we read images alongside objects and their material meaning?
Reading ourselves through land making?
Alternative sources of inspiration: art not stemming from ___?
I’m open to your proposals, and we can plan the programme together.
